At BJJ Fareham we take our responsibility to safeguard and treat members welfare as our number one priority. We ask all members our standards agreement set below. Failure to comply may result us asking you to leave the club.
As a member at BJJ Fareham you will agree to:
- Act with respect and integrity within the club setting.
- Follow the instructions of the instructor(s) and/or other team members to help classes run smoothly and safely.
- As a member of BJJ Fareham, we do not use the techniques learnt within the class setting in the community unless it is for self-defence purposes only.
- Respond to digital communications where appropriate from the club, including correspondence on club membership, fees and any relevant medical declarations.
- Keep the club updated if any medical conditions or injuries should become relevant.
- Discuss concerns or complaints you may have with the lead instructor as soon as possible.
- You are aware of the nature of the term contact sport. You are in close proximately and close contact You will be touched and moved by your training partner, which could be male or female.
- Keep your partner safe by all means.
- If an investigation is, in process, both parties will have to follow the strategies that are put into place and/or the decision made via the lead team to safeguard both parties until there is a clear outcome (no time scale.)
BJJ Fareham takes no responsibility in a members conduct whilst training or within the community. BJJ Fareham will advise you on best possible routes and action if there is a complaint.
BJJ Fareham has the right to refuse membership.

If an allegation has been made, BJJ Fareham will need to protect the individuals and are entitled to suspend all parties involved until a full and thorough investigation has taken place either within the club or outside agencies. BJJ Fareham may ask for witness statements to get a clearer picture of the alleged incident and the incident will be recorded.
BJJ Fareham will be pro-active in supporting the parties involved and this may include support and advise, have regular contact or to seek support with outside agencies such as LADO (child), adult MASH (vulnerable adult) or police.
If no suspension is in place, BJJ Fareham has the right to make changes to any individual’s involved training plan and introduce strategies. This is to insure BJJ Fareham will safeguard and protect any of the parties involved. The allegation will be discussed with the lead team and the best training plan, strategies and outcome will be put into place. The plan is made to support any individual’s best interest, wellbeing, to safeguard them and help with their progression within BJJ Fareham.
Strategies may include but not limited to: certain training days (fees will be reviewed), training with the same/different genders, having a buddy partner, advice on different clubs i.e. male or female only clubs.
Any individual(s) that has a bespoke plan for safeguarding will need to abide by the plan set (no time scale as incidents may vary due to severity) the individual(s) must be respectful and patient while the plan is in place.
As the plan is in place to safeguard the individual, any individual that does not abide by the training plan set, BJJ Fareham has the right to suspend the individual’s membership.
The BJJ Fareham team will review the plan regularly and the plan may stay as it is or change to a different plan that safeguards the individual to the best of BJJ Fareham ’s ability.
